These are the worksheets that will be handed out to each student:
Page 1 is an explanation about the meanings of facts and opinions, the topic of the activity. Examples are key here to help the students understand.
Page 2, at the beginning, explains the goals of the activity, giving the students an idea about what is expected from them. The steps of the activity are clearly written out for the least amount of confusion and stress that the activity may begin to create.
Page 3 is the log where students will record the facts and opinions they find in their books. They will also need to log their interesting fact that they found as well as their own opinions.
Page 4 is an overhead sheet where the students will write the 5 facts and opinions from the logs into the bubbles. The students will then share their worksheet with the class and test them on which statement is a fact or opinion. This is a great activity for these students especially at their age because they are becoming more independent, being able to teach a class well help them learn more about the topic, strengthen their social skills, as well as make them feel successful because they are in control.
This worksheet is for gifted students who need to be challenged a little further. It is titled Extra Practice = Extra Credit so that other students who are not gifted can attempt a more challenging assignment. It will encourage them to dig a little deeper into the topic. Gifted students will be required to complete this worksheet.
