A Habit You Should NOT Quit
Most habits we know of today are viewed in a negative way. For example, bitting your nails, picking your nose, spitting, and smoking etc. But I have good news....
THERE IS ACTUALLY A GOOD HABIT TO NEVER QUIT!
STUDYING!
My study habits:
1. Take Notes During Class
2. Rewrite Notes
3. Read Chapter and Take Notes (2 Column Style)
4. Reread section most unfamiliar with
5. Create My Own Examples
6. Make Flash Cards (Depending on Subject)
Typically before class starts I will have notes taken about the particular chapter being taught. When I take notes on the chapter I will take my lined paper and make two columns. The column on the left is where I write the main ideas, vocabulary, theory, or questions. On the right column I write the details of those specific terms, main ideas, theories and questions. I learned this way of note taking in my biology class of my freshman year of high school. It helps organize the information in a way that can be used as a study tool before the exam. The paper has two vertical columns because one side can be folded back to be quizzed on. I have used this note taking style ever since because of its organization and its effectiveness.
But it wasn't all that easy when I was in elementary school and middle school. Before high school I did not know many studying strategies except for making flatcars. Flash cards worked for me but only for definitions that needed to be learned. I ended up just memorizing terms and not actually understanding the full meaning. Which as a result in a test that would show.
